"With this collection of cartoons, Bob Swanson surfaces as our much needed comic relief extraordinaire. His combination of Salvation Army knowledge along with his one-of-a-kind and off handed humor brings laughter along with a refreshing look at the Army we love so much".
— Colonel Dennis Phillips
I grew up on the south side of Chicago and The Salvation Army has always played big part of my life. Our family attended the both Brainerd and Mt. Greenwood Salvation Army Corps (church) and we were involved in the various activities. After graduating from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Graphic Design I started a long and rewarding career as a package designer. Along the way, I married the beautiful Maribeth and for our honeymoon we spent the next 14 months backpacking around the world. Returning home, we started attending the Oakbrook Terrace Corps and soon thereafter our son Karl and daughter Kajsa joined the family. Cartooning has always been a hobby of mine, and for the past 24 years my “Mustard Seeds” comic strip has appeared monthly in the Central Connection, a publication of the Central Territory of the Salvation Army. It also appears in the Officer magazine, a publication for the ordained ministers of the Salvation Army.
I have now published “Please Don’t Pray With Your Mouth Full”…my first collection of “Mustard Seeds” comic strips. Presently, I am working on Book number 2 which I hope to release in 2022. After that…who knows, I may launch myself into the world of children’s picture books…I have a few ideas.
